Sharon Draper
Sharon Draper is a professional educator as well as an accomplished writer. She has been honored as the National Teacher of the Year, is a five-time winner of the Coretta Scott King Literary Award, and is a New York Times bestselling author. In 2003 she was named Ohio Pioneer in Education by the Ohio State Department of Education and received the Governor's Educational Leadership Award.
She has been honored at the White House on six different occasions by President Clinton as well as President Bush. Actively involved in encouraging and motivating teachers and their students, she has worked all over the United States, as well as in Russia, Ghana, Togo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Bermuda, and Guam, spreading the word about the power of accomplished teaching and excellence in education. Draper is the author of 20 books for teens, teachers, and young readers. Copper Sun received a 2007 Ohioana Book Award and a Coretta Scott King Award. Her two new titles are Fire from the Rock and November Blues. |
